We homeschool year round so sometimes it can feel hard to tell when one year ends and the next begins. Whether you’re easing into a homeschool routine or welcoming a new group of students into your classroom, those first days are a great opportunity to build connection and learn more about each child.
One of my favorite ways to start the year is with an All About Me worksheet. It’s a gentle, creative way to help kids reflect on who they are, while giving parents and teachers a glimpse into what makes each child unique.
A New Tradition for a New Year
In our family, we have a little tradition of filling out “All About Mom” or “All About Dad” printables for Mother’s Day and Father’s Day. It’s always fun (and sometimes hilarious) to see what our kids think our favorite foods or hobbies are.
This year, we decided to start a new tradition by turning the spotlight around. Instead of just filling out forms about us, our kids are now filling out their own All About Me pages at the start of each school year. It’s a fun way for them to reflect on how they’ve grown—and a sweet keepsake for us to look back on later.
Why I Like Using All About Me Activities
There are a few reasons this activity tends to become a yearly tradition around here.
First, it’s simple and open-ended. Young children can draw, color, and share at their own level. There’s no pressure to get it right, and the final result is always personal.
Second, it opens the door to meaningful conversations. A prompt like “My favorite food is…” often leads to funny stories, shared memories, or new ideas to try at home.
Third, it’s something worth keeping. I like to tuck these into portfolios or memory boxes to look back on later. Kids love seeing how their answers change from year to year.
What’s On the Worksheet

The version I use includes a handful of age-appropriate prompts that work well for preschool, kindergarten, and early elementary students. Some of the sections include:
- My name is
- I am ___ years old
- I live in
- My favorite color is
- My favorite book is
- This is me (a space for a drawing or photo)
I specifically included a space for kids to share a favorite book, since many “All About Me” printables tend to focus more on television or movies. This gives young readers a chance to highlight stories they love, and it often sparks great book recommendations between classmates or siblings.
The layout is simple, with large shapes and room for both drawing and writing. It’s easy to print and doesn’t require any extra prep.
For families, teachers, or programs working in bilingual settings, I’ve also created a Spanish version of the worksheet. The prompts are translated with care to feel natural and accessible for young children, whether they’re native Spanish speakers or just beginning to learn the language.
Ideas for Using It
There’s no one right way to use an All About Me worksheet. A few ideas:
- Print one for the first day of school and include it in your student’s binder or portfolio
- Use it as a warm-up activity before beginning a larger writing or art project
- Keep it as part of a memory book or homeschool keepsake
- Pair it with a get-to-know-you circle time or family interview
Whether you’re teaching one child or a full classroom, this is a simple way to ease into the year with curiosity and care.
